ILOILO CITY, March 26 (PNA) — A disc jockey (DJ) in one of the bars in the island resort of Boracay was arrested for illegal drugs during a buy-bust operation in Brgy. Bulabog, Boraday Island.
Police report reaching here Wednesday morning has identified the suspect as Mike Collantes, a resident of Las Pinas, Metro Manila and a disc jockey of the Wave Bar in Boracay.
Police Inspector Wilfredo Hofilena of PIBO said the buy-bust operation was conducted about 3:30 early Wednesday morning.
He said one of their operatives acted as a poseur-buyer and had succeeded in the drug deal with the suspect that subsequently led to his arrest after he yielded a plastic bag containing one kilo and 260 grams of dried marijuana leaves.
Hofilena said the successful drug-bust was launched based on information they have gathered that Collantes, aside from being a disc jockey in the bar, also engaged in the illicit business as the dealer of dried marijuana leaves in Boracay.
Hofilena said the PIBO will further intensify its campaign against illegal drugs not only in the resort island but also throughout the province of Aklan particularly now that foreign tourists are expected to flock Boracay island for vacation this Holy Week and summer season.
Meanwhile, the suspect was ordered detained at the lock-up cell of the Boracay Tourist Assistance Center pending the appropriate filing of illegal drug charges for violating certain provisions of Republic Act 9165, otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002. (PNA)
