ILOILO CITY, April 21 (PNA)– The city government and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) are jointly fielding a total of 230 college students to the different offices of the Iloilo City Hall and barangay halls to work for 20 days during the summer season starting April 21, 2014.
Ma. Elena Benitez, chief of the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) of city hall said the program is a pet program of Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog in providing an opportunity to the students in knowing the work at city hall and what the city government is doing for its people.
At the same time, the students will earn some amount to spend for the next school opening through the learn and earn program.
The students will participate in the Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) with a remuneration of Php 287 per day with DOLE assuring 40 percent and the city government with 60 percent of their daily allowance.
Similarly, the SPES students who had undergone summer job at city hall for three to four years are also accommodated to work for 30 days with the same daily allowance.
Called the SPES babies, the students are being assigned in different city hall offices.
Benitez said that 21 students will be assigned at the PESO to work and encode on the skills registry system (SRS) recommended by DOLE to know the manpower available in the 180 barangays.
The PESO chief said that DOLE will be holding a job fair at the provincial capitol grounds on May 1 in celebration of Labor Day. However, the city will be holding a “Trabaho sa Barangay” job fair at Brgy. Concepcion, city proper on May 5 where different business corporations and government agencies will be recruiting workers direct from the barangays.(PNA)
